Mariners Announce 2026 Major League Coaching Staff

Dan Wilson, Manny Acta, Trent Blank, Danny Farquhar, Perry Hill, Bobby Magallanes, Edgar Martinez, Kevin Seitzer, Pete Woodworth and Eric Young Jr. return to Major League staff; Carlos Cardoza, Jake McKinley and Austin Nola join staff

SEATTLE  —  Seattle Mariners President of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto, Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager Justin Hollander and Mariners Manager Dan Wilson announced today the Major League coaching staff for the 2026 season.

The Mariners 2026 staff includes three new hires from 2025:

  • Carlos Cardoza, hired as Third Base Coach
  • Jake McKinley, hired as Major League Field Coordinator
  • Austin Nola, hired as Bullpen Coach

Manny Acta (Bench Coach), Edgar Martinez (Senior Director, Hitting Strategy), Kevin Seitzer (Hitting Coach), Bobby Magallanes (Assistant Hitting Coach), Eric Young Jr. (First Base Coach), Trent Blank (Major League Coach and Director of Pitching Strategy), Danny Farquhar (Assistant Pitching Coach and Pitching Strategist), Perry Hill (Infield Coach) and Pete Woodworth (Pitching Coach) will all return to the Mariners Major League staff in the same roles in 2026.

“I am excited to welcome Austin, Carlos and Jake to our coaching staff,” Wilson said. “They bring decades of baseball knowledge to an already outstanding group of coaches. I am thrilled with our staff and believe they will continue to do an outstanding job of helping our players prepare each day.”

Dan Wilson returns for his 2nd full year as Seattle Manager and enters his 13th year in coaching/player development in professional baseball. Wilson was named manager on Aug. 22, 2024 and managed his first game on Aug. 23, 2024. In 196 regular season games as manager, he has led the team to a 111-85 record (.566), the best winning percentage in franchise history. Seattle finished the 2025 regular season with a 90-72 mark (.556), winning 6 Postseason games which included a 3-to-2 ALDS victory over the Detroit Tigers.

Prior to serving as manager, Wilson spent 11 seasons in various roles within the Mariners player development system, including serving as the Minor League Catching Coordinator (2014-15), Defensive Coordinator (2016-17) and Special Assistant for Player Development from 2018 until he was named manager. Wilson had a 14-year Major League playing career with Cincinnati (1992-93) and Seattle (1994-2005). He was an American League All-Star in 1996, and a member of the 1995, 1997, 2000 and 2001 Mariners Postseason teams. Wilson was inducted into the Mariners Hall of Fame as a player in 2012.

Manny Acta returns for his 4th year as Bench Coach (2018-19, 2025-c) and 11th year on the Mariners staff. He also enters his 25th season as a professional coach and 22nd season as a Major League coach or manager. During his time with Seattle, Acta has also served as the Mariners Third Base Coach (2016-17, ’20-24). He previously managed the Cleveland Guardians (2010-12) and Washington Nationals (2007-09) and, in addition to Seattle, has been a Major League Third Base Coach with New York-NL (2005-06) and Montreal (2002-04).

Trent Blank enters his 4th season as Major League Coach & Director of Pitching Strategy. He will be in his 7th season on a Major League coaching staff and 8th as a coach in the Mariners organization. Blank previously spent two seasons as Seattle’s Bullpen Coach (2021 & 2022) after serving as the Acting Bullpen Coach in 2020. He originally joined the Mariners as the Coordinator of Pitching Strategy (2019-2020) before joining the Major League coaching staff in 2020. Prior to joining the Mariners organization, Blank spent 4 years with TMI Sports Medicine working as a Baseball Performance Specialist. He was originally selected by Colorado in the 30th round of the 2012 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Baylor University and appeared in 3 seasons (2012-14) in the Rockies minor league system.

Carlos Cardoza joins the Mariners staff as Third Base Coach and enters his 11th year as a professional coach, his first on a Major League staff. He previously spent the last 3 seasons (2023-25) as the manager of the Texas Rangers Double-A affiliate, the Frisco RoughRiders. He managed the team to an 84-54 record in 2024, their best regular season winning percentage in Frisco franchise history, and was named the organization’s 2024 Bobby Jones Player Development Man of the Year following the season. Cardoza originally joined the Rangers organization in 2015 and spent 9 seasons as a manager in the Rangers organization, including for the DSL Rangers (2016-18), ACL Rangers (2019), Class-A Down East Wood Ducks (2021), High-A Hickory Crawdads (2022) and Double-A RoughRiders (2023-25). Cardoza was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico and played college baseball at Georgia State University and Armstrong State University before beginning his coaching career.

Danny Farquhar (FAR-kwar) enters his 3rd season as Assistant Pitching Coach and Pitching Strategist and 7th year as a professional coach. Prior to joining the Mariners staff, he spent 4 full seasons as a minor league coach with the Chicago White Sox organization. Farquhar pitched in parts of 7 Major League seasons with Toronto (2011), Seattle (2013-15), Tampa Bay (2016-17) and Chicago-AL (2017-18). He had 18 career saves and registered a 3.93 ERA (119 ER, 272.1 IP) with 106 walks and 309 strikeouts in 253 career appearances, including a career-high 16 saves with the 2013 Mariners. The Florida native was originally selected by the Blue Jays in the 10th round of the 2008 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and made his Major League debut with Toronto on Sept. 13, 2011.

Perry Hill returns for his 8th season as Infield Coach with the Mariners and will be in his 30th year as a Major League coach and 39th year in professional baseball. Hill’s players have won a total of 11 Gold Glove Awards during his career, including Mariners Gold Glove Award Winners J.P. Crawford (2020), Evan White (2020) and Dylan Moore (2024). Immediately prior to joining Seattle, he spent the 2013-18 seasons with the Miami Marlins as the club’s Major League Infield and First Base Coach. “Bone” played one season of minor league baseball with Class-A Rio Grande Valley in 1976 before beginning his coaching career.

Bobby Magallanes returns for his 2nd season as the Mariners Assistant Hitting Coach. He enters his 6th year on a Major League staff and his 25th season as a pro coach. Prior to joining the Seattle staff, he spent 4 seasons as the Assistant Hitting Coach for the Atlanta Braves (2021-2024), was Triple-A Gwinnett’s Hitting Coach in 2019 and the Braves’ Assistant Hitting Coordinator in 2020. He also coached in the Los Angeles Angels (2002-10), Chicago White Sox (2011-14) and Cleveland Guardians (2015-18) organizations. Magallanes was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 50th round of the 1989 MLB First-Year Player Draft and played in 4 minor league seasons, including 3 in the Mariners organization (1990-92).

Edgar Martinez returns for his 2nd season as Senior Director, Hitting Strategy. He will be in his 7th season on the Mariners Major League staff and his 12th season as a professional coach. Martinez previously served as the Mariners Hitting Coach from 2015-2018 as well as from Aug. 23 through the end of the 2024 season. In 2025, he helped lead Seattle to 238 home runs and 161 stolen bases, becoming the 2nd team in MLB history to record 230+ HR and 160+ SB in a season. Since rejoining the coaching staff on Aug. 23, 2024, the Mariners offense has ranked 7th in runs (939), 3rd in home runs (280), 7th in RBI (899), 3rd in stolen bases (203), 6th in walks (683), 8th in OBP (.325), 9th in slugging (.419), 7th in OPS (.745) and 7th in total bases (2789).

Martinez spent the entirety of his 18-year, Hall of Fame career with the Mariners where he hit .312 with 514 doubles, 309 home runs, 1,261 RBI, a .418 on-base percentage, .515 slugging percentage and a .933 OPS. He was inducted into the Mariners Hall of Fame in 2007 and the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame in 2019. His number 11 was retired by the Mariners in 2017, one of only two players in club history with that distinction (also: Ken Griffey Jr.).

Jake McKinley joins the Mariners staff as Major League Field Coordinator and enters his 1st season as a Major League coach. 2026 will be McKinley’s 20th season in coaching/player development. He joins the Mariners organization after spending the previous 3 seasons as the head coach of the University of Nevada. He was named 2025 Mountain West Coach of the Year after leading the Wolf Pack to the Mountain West regular season championship. Prior to his time at Nevada, McKinley spent time in the Milwaukee Brewers organization in player development, finishing his time with the Brewers as Vice President of Player Development in 2021. He was also the head coach at Menlo College (2014-17) and William Jessup (2018).

Austin Nola joins the Mariners staff as Bullpen Coach and enters his 1st season as a Major League coach following his retirement as a player after parts of 13 seasons with the Miami Marlins (2012-18), Seattle Mariners (2019-20), San Diego Padres (2020-23), Kansas City Royals (2024) and Colorado Rockies (2025) organizations. The former catcher and Baton Rouge, LA native was drafted by the Marlins in the 5th round of the 2012 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Louisiana State University and made his Major League Debut on June 6, 2019 with the Mariners after signing as a free agent on Nov. 8, 2018. He appeared in 108 games for the Mariners between the 2019 and 2020 seasons before being traded to the San Diego Padres along with RHP Austin Adams and RHP Dan Altavilla in exchange for RHP Andrés Muñoz, INF Ty France, C Luis Torrens and OF Taylor Trammel. Nola batted a career .247 (268x1087) with 127 runs, 52 doubles, 2 triples, 24 home runs, 137 RBI and 109 walks over parts of 6 seasons in the Big Leagues with Seattle (2019-20), San Diego (2020-2023) and Colorado (2025).

Kevin Seitzer returns for his 2nd season as Seattle’s Hitting Coach and will be in his 18th season as a Major League hitting coach. He previously spent 10 seasons (2015-24) on the Atlanta Braves staff and was the Major League Hitting Coach for the Arizona Diamondbacks (2007), Kansas City Royals (2009-12) and Toronto Blue Jays (2014) prior to joining the Mariners in 2025. Seitzer was named Baseball America’s 2023 MLB Coach of the Year after helping coach the Braves offense to an MLB record-tying 307 home runs and an MLB record .501 slugging percentage. Seitzer played in 12 Major League seasons with the Kansas City Royals (1986-91), Milwaukee Brewers (1992-93, 1994-96), Oakland Athletics (1993) and Cleveland Guardians (1996-97). He was a career .295 hitter with 74 home runs, 613 RBI and a .780 OPS and was a two-time All-Star (1987 and 1995).

Pete Woodworth returns for his 7th season as the club’s Pitching Coach and 10th in Mariners organization. He enters his 11th year as a professional coach. Following the 2022 season, Woodworth was recognized by Baseball America as the Major League Coach of the Year. Prior to joining Seattle’s Major League staff, he spent the 2019 season as the Pitching Coach for the Arkansas Travelers, the Mariners affiliate in the Double-A Texas League. Following the 2019 season, Woodworth was named the Texas League Coach of the Year. He spent 2017 and 2018 as the pitching coach for High-A Modesto after joining the Mariners on June 22, 2016 as the pitching coach at Class-A Clinton. He came to the Seattle organization from his alma mater, Florida Gulf Coast University.

Eric Young Jr. returns to the Mariners staff for his 2nd season as First Base Coach, his 4th season as a Major League coach and 7th in coaching/player development. In 2025, he coached Mariners base runners to 161 stolen bases which ranked T-3rd in the Majors and 3rd in franchise history. “E.Y.” Junior previously spent 2 as the Washington Nationals First Base Coach seasons (2022-23) and two seasons in the Mariners organization as a coach with Triple-A Tacoma (2021) and Baserunning Coordinator (2024). He appeared in parts of 10 Major League seasons with Colorado (2009-13), New York-NL (2013-15), Atlanta (2015), New York-AL (2016) and Los Angeles-AL (2017-18). The speedy outfielder was 162-for-201 in stolen base attempts during his career, including leading the National League with 46 stolen bases in 2013.

In addition, Fleming Báez and Justin Novak will return as bullpen catchers. Louis Boyd, who served as Seattle’s Major League Field Coordinator in 2025, will transition to Assistant Director of Player Development in 2026.
