Mariners Announce Postgame Alumni Home Run Derby on August 7

Ichiro Suzuki headlines list of participants, with teams captained by Nelson Cruz and Jay Buhner

SEATTLE – The Seattle Mariners announced today that the club will hold its first ever Alumni Home Run Derby presented by Muckleshoot Casino Resort on Friday, August 7 at T-Mobile Park. Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr. will serve as commissioner of the Home Run Derby, with Mariners Legends Nelson Cruz and Jay Buhner captaining the two teams.

“It’s always great being back in Seattle, but the 50 Seasons celebration is going to be on another level," said Mariners Hall of Famer Jay Buhner. "I think I can speak for all of our players, past and present, when I say this city and these fans are special. It's going to be awesome to have all the guys back in town for the weekend, and hopefully our derby participants can put on a good show to start things off on Friday night.”

The Derby will take place postgame following the conclusion of that night’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays. First pitch of the game has been moved to 6:40 pm PT.

The list of alumni participants is headlined by Hall of Famer Ichiro Suzuki, and includes Mariners Legend Mike Cameron, Mariners broadcasters Ryan Rowland-Smith and Ryon Healy, Mariners Bullpen Coach Austin Nola, local radio host Bucky Jacobsen and former Mariner & Oregon State alum Stefen Romero.

All fans with a ticket to the game on Friday, August 7 will have access to the Alumni Home Run Derby. Tickets are on sale now at Mariners.com/Tickets.

Throughout the Derby, fans in attendance will have the opportunity to win special prizes with targets placed throughout the field.

50 SEASONS CELEBRATION WEEKEND – AUGUST 7-9

The Mariners will hold a weekend full of events in celebration of the club’s 50th season over a 3-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays from August 7-9.

Friday, August 7 – Alumni Home Run Derby presented by Muckleshoot Casino Resort

Mariners alumni will swing for the fences in a Home Run Derby at T-Mobile Park, with the list of participants headlined by Hall of Famer Ichiro Suzuki.

Saturday, August 8 – 50 Seasons Celebration Night presented by Daktronics

It will be a historic night at T-Mobile Park as we celebrate the Top 50 Greatest Mariners Players with legends from each era of Mariners baseball sharing the field for a generational pregame ceremony.

Sunday, August 9 – 50 Seasons Pin Giveaway presented by KeyBank &
Legends Autograph Day VIP Experience presented by Daktronics

The first 10,000 fans will receive a collectable 50 Seasons Pin presented by KeyBank.

Additionally, fans who book the VIP experience will have the opportunity to take photos on the warning track pregame with dozens of Mariners legends including Mariners Hall of Famers Jay Buhner, Felix Hernández, Randy Johnson and Jamie Moyer and other notable players from throughout our history.

More Information on Derby Participants:

Ichiro Suzuki was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2025 and the Mariners Hall of Fame in 2022. One of the best hitters of his era and one of the best pure hitters of all-time, Ichiro amassed 2,542 hits, 295 doubles, and 99 home runs in 14 seasons (2001-12, ’18-19) with the Mariners. Ichiro tallied 37 leadoff homers in a Mariners uniform, the most in franchise history. Across 28 professional seasons between the U.S. and Japan, Ichiro totaled 4,367 hits, which are the most in pro baseball history.

Mike Cameron was the Mariners starting center fielder for four seasons (2000-03), making the 2001 All-Star Game and winning two Gold Gloves. He most famously tallied the only 4-homer game in Mariners history on May 2, 2002 in a game at the Chicago White Sox, also the first 4-homer game by an American League player in 43 years. Cameron currently serves as a Special Assignment Coordinator for the Mariners.

Ryon Healy appeared for the Mariners in 2018 and ’19, hitting 24 home runs during the 2018 season. Healy, who attended the University of Oregon, currently serves as a TV analyst for select games on Mariners TV.

Austin Nola played for the Mariners for two seasons (2019-20), hitting 10 home runs as a rookie. The former catcher currently serves as Bullpen Coach for the Mariners. Nola is the brother of Phillies All-Star pitcher Aaron Nola, who he faced 6 times (1x5, RBI, BB).

Bucky Jacobsen appeared in a 42-game stint with the Mariners in 2004, slugging .500 with an .835 OPS. The 6-foot-4 Jacobsen achieved cult hero status with towering home runs when he came up in ’04, and has served as a longtime sports talk radio personality in Seattle.

Ryan Rowland-Smith pitched four seasons (2007-10) for the Mariners and has served in a variety of roles with Mariners TV and Seattle Sports 710 AM as an analyst and field reporter. “Hyphen” is an Australia native and currently hosts “The Top Step Podcast”, with weekly episodes, often featuring interviews with Mariners players and personnel.

Stefen Romero played three seasons (2014-16) for the Mariners and attended Oregon State University, where he was drafted by Seattle in the 12th round in 2010.
