Mariners outright RHPs Ryan Cook, Justin Grimm

Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced today that right-handed relievers Ryan Cook and Justin Grimm were outrighted to Triple-A Tacoma.

SEATTLE, Wash. -- Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced today the following roster moves:
•   Ryan Cook, RHP, outrighted to Triple-A Tacoma.
•   Justin Grimm, RHP, outrighted to Triple-A Tacoma.
Seattle's 40-man roster is now at 35 players.
Cook, 31, went 2-1 with a 5.29 ERA (10 ER, 17.0 IP) in 19 games over 2 stints with Seattle in 2018: May 17-June 22 and Sept. 1-30. He limited opponents to a .234 (15x64) average, while walking 7 and striking out 23. Cook spent the majority of the season with Triple-A Tacoma, going 0-2 with 3 saves and 2.16 ERA (8 ER, 33.1 IP) in 34 relief appearances.
Cook has appeared in parts of 6 Major League seasons with Arizona (2011), Oakland (2012-15), Boston (2015) and Seattle (2018), compiling a record of 15-13 with 17 saves and a 3.58 ERA (89 ER, 224.0 IP) while striking out 233 and walking 96. The native of Clovis, CA, signed a 2-year minor league contract with the Mariners on Nov. 14, 2016. He missed the entire 2017 season after undergoing "Tommy John" surgery on Oct. 20, 2016. He was originally selected by the Diamondbacks in the 27th round of the 2008 MLB Draft out of the University of Southern California.
Grimm, 30, made 5 relief appearances with Seattle in 2018 after being selected on Sept. 1, going 0-0 with a 1.93 ERA (1 ER, 4.2 IP). He also made 10 relief appearances with Triple-A Tacoma from Aug. 2-30, posting a record of 1-0 with a 1.64 ERA (2 ER, 11.0 IP) with 17 strikeouts and 2 walks. He did not allow a run in 7 of his last 8 outings (10.0 IP), holding opponents to a .200 (7x35) average against while recording 16 strikeouts and 2 walks. Prior to joining the Rainiers, the 6-foot-3, 210-pound right-hander appeared in 2 games on a rehab assignment with Short-A Everett after signing a minor league contract with Seattle on July 19, allowing 1 run in 2.0 innings (4.50 ERA) while striking out 3 and walking 2. Grimm opened the 2018 season on the Kansas City Royals Opening Day roster and went 1-3 with a 13.50 ERA (19 ER, 12.2 IP) with 8 strikeouts and 14 walks in 16 relief appearances. In 9 games with Triple-A Omaha (Kansas City), he was 1-1 with an 8.68 ERA (9 ER, 9.1 IP) with 13 strikeouts and 6 walks.  
Grimm was originally drafted by Boston in the 13th round of the 2007 MLB First-Year Player Draft, but did not sign. He was selected and signed by Texas in the 5th round of the 2010 MLB Draft out of the University of Georgia. He made his Major League debut with the Rangers in 2012. In parts of 7 Major League seasons with Texas (2012-13), Chicago-NL (2013-17), Kansas City (2018) and Seattle (2018), he is 20-23 with 4 saves and a 4.98 ERA (197 ER, 356.0 IP) with 361 strikeouts and 154 walks in 306 games, including 19 starts.
