The Seattle Mariners and the Washington State Major League Baseball Stadium Public Facilities District today announced a two-year plan to enhance accessibility features at Safeco Field to improve accessibility for individuals with disabilities.
The action plan is designed to address a checklist of items such as handrail placement, counter heights and door widths. To improve the ballpark experience of fans with disabilities, additional training is being provided to all event staff members who work with guests and the team's website is being updated with new information to help fans better prepare for and enjoy their visit to Safeco Field.
"The Mariners and PFD are committed to ensuring that Safeco Field is accessible to as many fans as possible. We appreciate the assistance of Washington Civil & Disability Advocate and Disability Rights Washington during the review and formulation of our action plan. Their vigilance and insight have been invaluable throughout the process," said Trevor Gooby, Seattle Mariners Sr. Vice President of Ballpark Operations.
The checklist of action items was prepared as part of a comprehensive site survey by certified accessibility specialists. Phase I projects will be completed by the end of 2017 and Phase II by the end of 2018.
