Mariners Recall Right-Handed Pitcher Cole Wilcox from Triple-A Tacoma

SEATTLE – Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Justin Hollander announced today the following roster moves:

  • Cole Wilcox, RHP, recalled from Triple-A Tacoma.
  • Josh Simpson, LHP, optioned to Triple-A Tacoma.

Wilcox, 26, previously made 11 appearances out of the Seattle bullpen, holding a 5.40 ERA (8 ER, 13.1 IP) with 12 walks and 15 strikeouts before being optioned on May 4. Since being optioned to Triple-A Tacoma, he holds a 5.03 ERA (11 ER, 19.2 IP) with 6 walks and 24 strikeouts in 17 minor league appearances.

The 6-foot-5, 232-pound righty was acquired by Seattle from Tampa Bay in exchange for cash considerations on November 5, 2025. He made his Major League debut with the Rays on Sept. 19, 2025 at Boston, tossing 1.0 inning of relief in his only career Major League appearance that season.

He was originally drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 3rd round of the 2020 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Georgia. He was traded by the Padres to the Rays on December 29, 2020 along with three other players in exchange for LHP Blake Snell.

Simpson, 28, was recalled on June 27 and made 1 appearance during his most recent stint with the Mariners. He has made 4 total appearances out of the Mariners bullpen this season, posting a 9.00 ERA (3 ER, 3.0 IP) with 3 strikeouts.

He has made 20 appearances with the Tacoma Rainiers this season, recording one save with a 2.08 ERA (5 ER, 21.2 IP). The left-hander has 24 strikeouts and 10 walks, registering 10.0 strikeouts-per-9 innings.

Simpson was acquired by Seattle on Feb. 16 from the Miami Marlins in exchange for cash considerations. He was drafted by the Marlins in the 32nd round of the 2019 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Columbia University (NY) and made 31 relief appearances for Miami in 2025.
