ARLINGTON, Texas -- Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced today the following roster moves:
- Tommy Milone, LHP, selected from AAA Tacoma.
- Shed Long, INF, recalled from AAA Tacoma.
- Dylan Moore, INF, returned from rehabilitation assignment at AAA Tacoma and reinstated from 10-day IL.
- Dee Gordon, INF, placed on 10-day Injured List with right wrist contusion.
- Ryon Healy, INF, placed on 10-day Injured List with lower back inflammation.
- Parker Markel, RHP, optioned to AAA Tacoma (post-game 5/20).
Milone (#57) is scheduled to be the Mariners starting pitcher for tonight’s (5:05 pm PT) game at the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Park. Long (#39) and Moore (#25) will be in uniform and available for tonight’s game.
The Mariners Major League, 40-man, roster is now full at 40 players.
Milone, 32, went 4-2 with a 3.83 ERA (21 ER, 49.1 IP) in 9 games, 8 starts, this season with Triple-A Tacoma. The 6-foot, 205-pound, left-handed starter limited opponents to a .250 (49x196) average, while walking 12 and striking out 43. Over his last 4 starts, dating back to April 30, Milone is 3-0 with a 1.90 ERA (5 ER, 23.2 IP), including tossing 13.2 scoreless innings over 2 starts April 30 at Salt Lake and May 5 vs. Albuquerque. At the time of his call up on May 21, Milone ranked among Pacific Coast League leaders in wins (T5th, 4), innings pitched (5th, 49.1), WHIP (8th, 1.24), ERA (10th, 3.83), opponent batting average (T13th, .250), strikeouts (14th, 43).
Milone was signed by Seattle as a minor league free agent on Dec. 4, 2018. He was originally selected in the 10th round by the Washington Nationals in the 2008 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of USC. He made his Major League debut with the Nationals on Sept. 3, 2011 vs. the New York Mets (4.1,7,3,3,1,4), recording a no decision and also belting a 3-run home run in his first career plate appearance. In parts of 8 Major League seasons with Washington (2011, 2018), Oakland (2012-2014), Minnesota (2014-16), Milwaukee (2017) and New York-NL (2018), he has compiled a 46-37 record with a 4.42 ERA (375 ER, 763.0 IP) in 151 games, 130 starts. He has limited opponents to a .276 (837x3029) average, while walking 189 and striking out 554.
Long, 23, was previously with the Mariners from May 10-14. He appeared in 3 games, including making his MLB debut on May 11 at the Red Sox, and was 0-for-9 with 2 walks. In two stints in Tacoma, Long hit safely in 25 of 36 games with the Rainiers, batting .293 (43x147) with 31 runs scored, 6 doubles, 4 triples, 6 HR, 23 RBI and 16 walks.
Long was acquired by Seattle from New York-AL in exchange for minor league outfielder Josh Stowers on Jan. 21, 2019. He was originally selected by Cincinnati in the 12th round of the 2013 MLB Draft. Over 7 minor league seasons, he is batting .273 (485x1777) with 259 runs, 91 doubles, 19 triples, 56 home runs, 234 RBI, 204 walks and 54 steals in 493 games.
Moore, 26, appeared in 28 games with Seattle this season, prior to being placed on the 10-day injured list on May 10 with a right wrist contusion. He was placed on a rehabilitation assignment with AAA Tacoma on May 18 and was 3-for-13 (.231) with 4 RBI in 3 games with the Rainiers. With Seattle, he was batting .229 (11x48) with 7 runs scored, 3 doubles, 2 home runs, 5 RBI, 5 walks and 2 stolen bases. The 6-foot, 185-pound infielder made his first career Opening Day roster with Seattle this season and made his Major League debut with the Mariners on March 20 vs. Oakland in Tokyo, Japan. Moore has appeared in games this season at second base, shortstop, third base, left field and pitcher.
Moore signed with Seattle as a free agent on November 9, 2018. The Placentia, CA, native was originally drafted by Texas Rangers in the 7th round of the 2015 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Central Florida. He was added to the Rangers 40-man roster on November 21, 2015 and traded to Atlanta as part of a three-team trade that sent International Slot money to the Rangers on Aug. 24, 2016. In 4 minor league seasons with Texas (2015-16), Atlanta (2016-17) and Milwaukee (2018), he hit .260 (395x1518) with 235 runs scored, 96 doubles, 13 triples, 42 home runs, 200 RBI, 175 walks and 90 stolen bases in 440 career games.
Gordon, 31, is batting .281 (45x160) with 16 runs, 3 doubles, 1 triple, 3 home runs, 19 RBI, 1 HBP, 7 walks and 12 stolen bases in 45 games with the Mariners this season. His 12 stolen bases are tied for 3rd-most in the Majors this season. He was hit on his right wrist by a pitch on May 9 at New York-AL and missed the next 3 games. Since returning to the field on May 13, he was 3-for-22 (.136) with 2 runs and 2 stolen bases.
Gordon is in his 2nd season with the Mariners after being acquired from Miami in a trade on Dec. 7, 2017. He was originally selected by Los Angeles-NL in the 4th round of the 2008 MLB Draft. In parts of 9 Major League seasons with the Dodgers (2011-14), Marlins (2015-17) and Mariners (2018-c), he is batting .289 (1022x3539) with 500 runs, 114 doubles, 49 triples, 18 home runs, 216 RBI and 320 stolen bases. He is 1 of 4 active players with at least 300 career stolen bases.
Healy, 27, left last night’s game at Texas in the sixth inning. He is T4th in the Majors (2nd in the American League) with 16 doubles this season and 23 of his 40 hits have gone for extra bases (16 doubles, 7 home runs) in 2019. Overall, he is hitting .237 (40x169) with 26 RBI, 13 walks and 40 strikeouts. He was hitting .258 through games of May 8, but has gone 6-for-his-last-37 (.162) since May 9.
Healy was acquired by Seattle from Oakland prior to the 2018 season. With the Mariners he has hit .236 (156x662) with 31 doubles, 31 home runs and 99 RBI in 180 games. In his career with the A’s (2016-17) and Seattle (2018-c), he is a .261 hitter (394x1507) with 80 doubles, 69 home runs and 214 RBI in 401 games. He was originally selected by Oakland in the 3rd round of the 2013 First Year Player Draft out of the University of Oregon.
Markel, 28, made 4 relief appearances with the Mariners after being selected from Triple-A Tacoma on May 12. He allowed 6 earned runs over 3.2 innings (14.73 ERA) while striking out 3 and walking 3. He made his Major League debut on May 12 at Boston. Prior to his selection, he was 3-0 with 4 saves and a 0.52 ERA (1 ER, 17.1 IP) with 35 strikeouts and 7 walks in 13 relief appearances with Double-A Arkansas and Triple-A Tacoma this season.
Markel was selected by Detroit in the 32nd round of the 2009 MLB Draft but did not sign. The native of Newport Beach, CA, was selected and signed by Tampa Bay in the 39th round of the 2010 Draft out of Yavapai College (Prescott, AZ). He has appeared in parts of 8 minor league seasons with the Rays (2010-16) and Mariners (2019-c). He spent the 2017 season with the Lotte Giants of the Korean Baseball Organization. In 2018, Markel made 37 relief appearances with the Sioux City Explorers of the independent American Association.
