Bergman (#56) will be Seattle's starting pitcher in today's (12:40 p.m. PT) game against the Texas Rangers at Safeco Field.
Seattle now has 7 days to trade, release or outright the contract of Goeddel to the Minor Leagues.
Seattle's Major League, 40-man roster is now at 38 players.
Bergman, 30, has posted a record of 3-3 with a 3.40 ERA (17 ER, 45.0 IP) with 41 strikeouts and 12 walks in 8 starts with AAA Tacoma this season. The 6-foot-1, 195-pound right-hander has worked at least 5.0 innings in 7 of his 8 starts with the Rainiers, including 6 outings of 5.0 or more innings and 3 or fewer runs allowed. Among Pacific Coast League leaders, he ranks T1st in starts, 5th in innings pitched, T8th in strikeouts and 15th in ERA.
In 2017, Bergman made 13 appearances, including 8 starts, with the Mariners. He went 4-5 with a 5.00 ERA (30 ER, 54.0 IP) with 33 strikeouts and 15 walks. As a starter, he was 4-4 with a 5.70 ERA (27 ER, 42.2 IP) with 28 strikeouts and 13 walks. He posted 2 starts of at least 7.0 scoreless innings (May 17 vs. OAK and May 28 at BOS), tied with Aríel Miranda for 2nd-most on the club last season (James Paxton, 4). Bergman has appeared in parts of four Major League seasons with Colorado (2014-16) and Seattle (2017-c), compiling a record of 11-14 with a 5.58 ERA (125 ER, 201.2 IP) with 123 strikeouts and 46 walks in 68 games (23 starts). The native of Glendale, CA, was originally selected by Colorado in the 24th round of the 2010 MLB Draft out of UC Irvine. He made his Major League debut with the Rockies on June 9, 2014 vs. Atlanta.
Goeddel, 29, appeared in 5 games out of the bullpen with the Mariners, going 2-0 with a 1.23 ERA (1 ER, 7.1 IP) while striking out 9 and walking 5. He threw a career-high 46 pitches over 2.0 scoreless innings last night to earn the win in Seattle's 9-8, 11-inning victory over Texas. Three of his five outings with the Mariners were of at least 1.2 innings pitched. Prior to being selected by Seattle on May 3, the 6-foot-3, 190-pound right-hander went 1-0 with 4 saves with 10 strikeouts and 4 walks in 9 relief appearances with AAA Tacoma this season. He signed a Minor League contract with the Mariners on March 20, 2018. He began the 2018 Cactus League season with Texas after signing with the Rangers as a Minor League free agent on Dec. 19, 2017.
Goeddel has appeared in parts of 5 Major League seasons with the New York Mets (2014-17) and Seattle Mariners (2018), posting a record of 5-4 with a 3.78 ERA (47 ER, 112.0 IP) with 118 strikeouts and 43 walks in 115 career relief appearances. The native of San Mateo, CA, was originally selected by the Mets in the 24th round of the 2010 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of UCLA, where he was a part of the 2010 UCLA squad that advanced to the finals of the College World Series. He made his Major League debut with the Mets on Sept. 1, 2014 at Miami.
