Mariners select RHP Matt Carasiti & RHP Mike Wright from AAA Tacoma

RHP Gerson Bautista optioned to AAA Tacoma, LHP Jesse Biddle designated for assignment & RHP Chasen Bradford transferred to 60-day IL

SEATTLE, Wash. -- Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced today the following roster moves:

·        Matt Carasiti, RHP, selected from AAA Tacoma.

·        Mike Wright, RHP, selected from AAA Tacoma.

·        Gerson Bautista, RHP, optioned to AAA Tacoma (post game June 22).

·        Jesse Biddle, LHP, designated for assignment.

·        Chasen Bradford, RHP, transferred from 10-day IL to 60-day IL.

Carasiti (#56) and Wright (#41) will be in uniform and available for today’s (1:10 pm PT) game versus the Baltimore Orioles at T-Mobile Park. With today’s roster moves, the Mariners Major League, 40-man, roster remains at 40. Seattle has 7 days to trade, release or outright the contract of Biddle to the minors.

Carasiti, 27, had 2 saves (in 2 save opportunities) in 4 games with the Rainiers after being signed by Seattle to a minor league contract on June 7. He allowed a pair of runs in 5.2 innings pitched (3.18 ERA). Carasiti began the year with the AAA Iowa Cubs. With Iowa, Carasiti was 1-1, 2.67 (8 ER, 27.0 IP) in 16 games with 1 save. He limited opposing hitters to a .204 batting average against prior to being released on June 7.

Carasiti, a 6-foot-3, 210-pound right-hander, was a sixth-round selection by the Colorado Rockies in the 2012 MLB First Year Player Draft out of St. John’s University. He made his MLB debut with the Rockies in 2016, appearing in 19 games and posting a 1-0 record. He signed with Chicago-NL and spent the 2017 season with Iowa, before pitching in Japan with Yakult in 2018.

Wright, 29, was designated for assignment on May 19 and outrighted to AAA Tacoma on May 22. With the Rainiers, he was 0-1, 2.66 (6 ER, 20.1 IP) in 6 games, 4 starts. He was acquired by Seattle from Baltimore on April 24 after the Orioles designated him for assignment on April 21. With the Mariners, he did not record a decision, appearing in 7 games (11.0 IP) and allowing 11 ER (9.00 ERA). In 10 relief appearances with the Orioles this season, he was 0-1 with 1 save (2 opportunities) with a 9.45 ERA (14 ER, 13.1 IP), 14 strikeouts and 7 walks.

Wright has appeared in parts of 5 Major League seasons with Baltimore (2015-19) and Seattle (2019), compiling a career record of 10-12 with 1 save and a 6.08 ERA (171 ER, 253.0 IP) with 205 strikeouts and 98 walks in 108 career games (23 starts). He made his Major League debut with the Orioles on May 17, 2015 vs. the Angels. He was originally selected by Baltimore in the 3rd round of the 2011 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of East Carolina University.

Bautista, 24, was 0-1 with 1 save and a 9.25 ERA (25 ER, 24.1 IP) in 17 games with Seattle this season. He was on the 10-day injured list March 18 (retroactive to March 17)-June 5, with a right pectoralis strain. He was transferred to the 60-day IL on May 27. Bautista appeared on rehabilitation assignment with High-A Modesto (0-0, 4.50 in 3 games / 2 ER, 4.0 IP) and AAA Tacoma (0-0, with 1 save and a 2.57 ERA in 5 games / 2 ER, 7.0 IP).

The Mariners acquired Bautista (along with Jay Bruce, Anthony Swarzak, Jarred Kelenic and Justin Dunn) from the Mets on Dec. 3, 2018. He made his MLB debut in 2018 with New York (NL) in 2018, appearing in 5 games, and posting an 0-1 mark with a 12.46 ERA (6 ER, 4.1 IP). In parts of six minor league seasons in the Boston, New York-NL and Seattle minor league systems, holds a combined 13-12 record with 19 saves and a 3.11 ERA (93 ER, 269.0 IP). He has struck out 8.9 batters per 9.0 Innings pitched in his minor league career (266 SO, 269.0 IP).

Biddle, 27, was acquired by Seattle from Atlanta on May 20. With the Mariners, he did not record a decision in 11 games and posted a 9.82 ERA (12 ER, 11.0 IP). With the Braves, he was on the injured list from April 27-May 14 with a right thigh contusion and was activated from the IL on May 14 prior to being designated for assignment on May 15. Overall this season he was 0-1, with a 5.40 ERA (7 ER, 11.2 IP) in 15 games with the Braves. He appeared in 4 games with AAA Gwinnett on rehab assignment, and was 1-0, 3.38 (2 ER, 5.1 IP).

Biddle has pitched in the Majors in parts of two MLB seasons (2018-19) with the Braves and Mariners (2019) and is 6-2, 4.27 (41 ER, 86.1 IP) with 1 save in 86 career games. He was 6-1 with a 1 save and a 3.11 ERA (22 ER, 63.2 IP) in 2018 after making, and winning, his MLB debut on April 21, 2018 vs. the Mets. Biddle was originally drafted by Philadelphia in the 1st round (27th overall) of the 2010 MLB First Year Player Draft. He was traded to Pittsburgh on Feb. 3, 2016 before being claimed off waivers by Atlanta on March 19, 2016.

Bradford, 29, is in his second stint on the IL this season. Was placed on the 10-day IL June 3 with a strained right forearm. He was previously on the 10-day Injured List, April 9-22, with right shoulder inflammation. Bradford made 2 appearances with the Mariners after being recalled from AAA Tacoma on May 31, allowing 2 runs on a pair of solo home runs while striking out 1 and walking 1 in 3.0 innings pitched. Overall this season with Seattle, he is 1-for-1 in save opportunities with 1 hold in 12 games. The 6-foot-1, 226-pound right-hander has posted a 4.86 ERA (9 ER, 16.2 IP) while striking out 11 and walking 4. He has appeared in 5 games with the Rainiers this season, earning 1 save and posting a 6.75 ERA (4 ER, 5.1 IP), while striking out 2 and walking 3.

Bradford has appeared in parts of 3 Major League season with the Mets (2017) and Mariners (2018-c), compiling a career record of 7-0 with 1 save and a 3.89 ERA (45 ER, 104.0 IP0 with 76 strikeouts and 31 walks in 86 career appearances. He was claimed off waivers by the Mariners from the Mets on Jan. 19, 2018. He was originally selected by the Mets in the 35th round of the 2011 MLB First-Year Player Draft.
