Mariners trim roster to 25 players

SEATTLE, Wash. -- Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager Jerry Dipoto announced the following roster moves today:

Optioned to Triple-A Tacoma (2):
Outfielder (1): Braden Bishop
Right-handed pitcher (1): Dan Altavilla

Today’s roster moves (and the retirement of Ichiro Suzuki on Thursday night) set the Mariners Major League, 25-man roster, at 25 players. The Mariners roster was at 28 players, including 3 players designated as “inactive”, for the two game series in Japan.

The Mariners will have extra players available for the exhibition games on Monday and Tuesday vs. the San Diego Padres.

Seattle opens the 2019 home season on Thursday, March 28 vs. the defending World Series Champion Boston Red Sox in T-Mobile Park. Game time is 4:10 pm (PST). Tickets remain for all six games in the first homestand of the season.
