The Miami Marlins today acquired infielder Bryson Brigman and international bonus pool money from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for outfielder Cameron Maybin.
Brigman, 23, is a native of San Jose, California. He is batting .304 (116x381) in 98 games for Single-A Modesto this season, with 47 runs scored, 13 doubles, seven triples, two home runs, 38 RBI, and 15 stolen bases. He also has 37 walks, against 58 strikeouts, with a .373 on-base percentage. Brigman, who was the No. 19 prospect in Seattle's system, per MLB.com, entered today tied for the California League lead in hits, tied for third in triples, fifth in batting average, and sixth in OBP. He was a Midseason All-Star for the Nuts this season, his first career All-Star nod.
He entered this season with 33 stolen bases and a .245 career average in 188 games at the Single-A level in 2016 and '17, after being drafted by the Mariners in the third round (#87 overall) of the 2016 MLB First-Year Player Draft. He has seen time at both second base (102 games) and shortstop (169) in his professional career.
Brigman is the only player ever to play on three world championship teams for USA Baseball, doing so with the 16-U squad in 2011 and with back-to-back 18-U teams in 2012 and '13. He was also a two-time All-West Coast Conference first-team selection at the University of San Diego.
