MIAMI -- The Miami Marlins today announced that they have signed 10 players to open the 2018 International Signing Period. The announcement was made by Marlins Director of International Operations Fernando Seguignol. Of the 10 players signed, four are pitchers (3 RHP, 1 LHP), three are shortstops, two are center fielders and one is a catcher.
"As was the plan with the Draft, we wanted to target middle of the field-type players in the international market," said Seguignol.
"We are by no means finished for this signing period and will continually work to bring more international talent into the organization."
International players are eligible to sign with a Major League team between July 2 and June 15 of the following season if the player is 17 years old, or will be 17 at the conclusion of the first season of the player's contract.
