MDA Muscle Walk of Greater Philadelphia Presented by the Philadelphia Phillies & Hosted by Rhys Hoskins

June 4th, 2019

PHILADELPHIA, PA, May 31, 2019 — The Muscular Dystrophy Association is bringing strength to life for kids and adults in the Greater Philadelphia community with muscular dystrophy, ALS and related muscle-debilitating diseases at the 2019 MDA Muscle Walk of Greater Philadelphia on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at the Marine Parade Grounds in the Navy Yard.

This is Hoskins’ second time hosting the annual event as a part of his year-round involvement with the MDA. The 9th annual MDA Muscle Walk is a meaningful way for families, friends, neighbors and local businesses in Greater Philadelphia to come together to raise critical awareness and funds for muscle-debilitating diseases that severely weaken muscle strength and mobility. This year’s walk includes a 1.5K route designed for participants of all ages and abilities, including a wheelchair and equipment-friendly course.

“There are kids and adults in our community living with muscular dystrophy and related diseases that take away everyday abilities like walking, hugging and even breathing,” said MDA Executive Director Amanda Sweet. “When you support the MDA Muscle Walk of Greater Philadelphia, you can help change that by helping us fund urgently-needed research, treatments and support that will help these individuals live longer and grow stronger.”

The Muscle Walk event is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Navy Yard. Entertainment will be provided by the Phillies’ DJ Jon Joaquin, a caricature artist, face painting and Chuckles the clown. To register, visit www.mda.donordrive.com/event/philadelphia.

MDA Muscle Walk is more than a fundraising walk — it’s a life-changing event that strengthens families and communities. In 2018, about 29,000 people participated in 140 MDA Muscle Walks, raising $6.1 million. Since 2011, MDA Muscle Walk has raised more than $53 million to help bring strength to life for the families we serve.

Every dollar raised through Muscle Walk benefits MDA’s mission to fund groundbreaking research across diseases and provide individuals with life-enhancing programs and support services, including state-of-the-art multidisciplinary care the MDA Care Center at Temple University Hospital, University of Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania Hospital, Nemours/A.I.duPont Hospital for Children and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Funds raised also make MDA Summer Camp possible for more than 64 area kids where they can experience the best week of the year at no cost to their families at Variety Club Camp. Locally we serve 2,000 families in the Greater Philadelphia Area which includes South Jersey and New Castle County, DE. Some other benefits at no cost to our families are our educational seminars, support groups, equipment assistance, resource center, young adult program, Quest magazine, mda.org and advocacy.
