FLUSHING, NY, August 3, 2026 – The New York Mets have announced that they have acquired INF Jefferson Rojas from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for RHP Clay Holmes and OF Tyrone Taylor.
Rojas, 21, has appeared in 91 games at Double-A Knoxville this season, batting .270/.339/.461 with 58 runs, 19 doubles, one triple, 15 home runs, 57 RBI, 17 stolen bases and an .800 OPS. A native of Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, Rojas has spent five seasons in the minor leagues, slashing .257/.338/.395 with 247 runs, 68 doubles, 12 triples, 40 home runs, 213 RBI, 85 stolen bases and a .733 OPS. The right-handed hitter was originally signed by the Cubs as an international free agent in January 2022.
Holmes, 33, went 4-4 with a 2.39 ERA (14 ER/52.2 IP) in nine starts with the Mets this season before being placed on the Injured List in May. In 42 career games (40 starts) with the Mets, Holmes went 16-12 with a 3.26 ERA (79 ER/218.1 IP). The right-handed pitcher signed with New York as a free agent prior to the 2025 season.
Taylor, 32, played in 67 games with the Mets this season and slashed .241/.290/.503 with 10 home runs, eight doubles, 28 RBI and a .794 OPS. In three seasons with New York, Taylor appeared in 310 games and batted .236/.289/.388 with 19 home runs and 90 RBI.
