The New York Mets today announced that Glenn Sherlock will join the Major League coaching staff as the third base coach and catching instructor replacing Tim Teufel.
Teufel, who has been the Mets third base coach since 2012, has been offered another position in the Mets organization.
"Tim Teufel has done an excellent job for us over many years in many different roles," said Mets general manager Sandy Alderson. "I hope he continues in the Mets organization. We are very pleased that Glenn is joining our major league staff. He will fill a key role for us at third base and as a coach for our young catchers."
Sherlock, 56, had spent the previous 19 years on the Arizona Diamondbacks coaching staff. He spent three years as the D-backs' bench coach (2003, 2015-2016) and was their bullpen and catching coach from 1998-2002 and 2005-2013. Sherlock was Arizona's third base coach in 2004 and 2014 and also served as Arizona's Minor League catching coordinator from 1996-1997.
The former catcher played 297 Minor League games in the Astros (1983-1986) and Yankees (1987-1989) organizations.
The Nahant, MA native also managed three seasons in the Yankees organization, going 121-128 with from 1990-1993 with the rookie level Gulf Coast Yankees and Fort Lauderdale (Class A) affiliate in the Florida State League. Sherlock was Mariano Rivera's first manager in professional baseball in 1990 with the Gulf Coast Yankees. 
Sherlock will enter his 34th year in professional baseball in 2017. Among catchers he has coached are: Jorge Posada, Mike Stanley, Bob Melvin, Brad Ausmus, Jim Leyritz, Kelly Stinnett, Miguel Montero, Henry Blanco and Tuffy Gosewisch.
