Miami Marlins Acquire INF Josh Bell from Cleveland Guardians

The Miami Marlins today acquired 2022 National League Silver slugger and 2019 NL All-Star first baseman Josh Bell from Cleveland in exchange for infielder Jean Segura and Minor League infielder Kahlil Watson.

Bell, 30, earned NL Silver Slugger honors (DH) last season, posting 29 doubles, 17 home runs and 71 RBI. He began the season with Washington, where he hit 25 doubles, 3 doubles, 14 home runs, and 57 RBI in 103 games before being traded to the San Diego Padres. He finished the season ranked sixth in the NL in walks (81) and eighth in on-base percentage (.362). On the year, he appeared in 124 games at first base and 32 as the designated hitter.

The switch-hitting slugger was named a NL All-Star with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2019, when he posted a career-high 37 home runs and 116 RBI. His 37 home runs were the most by a Pirates player since 2002 (Brian Giles – 38 HR), and his 116 RBI were the most since 2000 (Giles – 123).

Over 949 career MLB games, Bell has 177 doubles, 141 home runs, 516 RBI and 449 walks. He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the second round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft from Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas.
