The Miami Marlins today announced further details regarding its Good Student Program, a new community ticket program and core pillar of the organization's Baseball For Kids partnership with J.P. Morgan. The Good Student Program's inaugural edition in 2018 will recognize K-12 students in the public school systems of Miami-Dade County and Broward County who achieved perfect attendance and/or straight A grades during the 2017/2018 academic year.
Eligible students -- determined by each school system and estimated at more than 30,000 -- will receive an invitation for two complimentary tickets to a Marlins home game of their choice between June 11 and August 12. Instructions on how eligible students may access and redeem their award tickets will be communicated by each school system prior to the end of the academic year in early June.
"We congratulate the academic achievements of this year's eligible student recipients, and look forward to hosting and entertaining them at Marlins Park over the summer break," said Chip Bowers, Marlins President of Business Operations. "We are thankful to have a partner in J.P. Morgan that also has a focus on the youth in our local community, and we continue to seek opportunities, such as the Good Student Program, to expand the reach and increase the impact of the Marlins' investment in the community."
"The Marlins organization has always been a great partner of Miami-Dade County Public Schools," said Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho. "The Good Student Program is an example and extension of the Marlins' commitment to cultivate greater academic achievement among students and recognize them for making daily school attendance a priority."
In Broward County Public Schools, the attendance campaign is intended to teach the importance of daily attendance. Phillip Shaver, Coordinator for District Attendance adds that "this program with the Miami Marlins provides a tangible incentive for students to attend school every day. Beginning in Kindergarten, daily attendance is major factor contributing to academic achievement. The Student Services Department is excited to be able to recognize the parent's role in teaching the child to be dependable, reliable, and value their educational experience."
