Nationals recall Pedro Severino

The Washington Nationals recalled catcher Pedro Severino from Triple-A Syracuse and placed catcher Matt Wieters on the 10-day disabled list with a mild left oblique strain on Monday. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement.

The Washington Nationals recalled catcher Pedro Severino from Triple-A Syracuse and placed catcher Matt Wieters on the 10-day disabled list with a mild left oblique strain on Monday. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement.
Severino, 24, is ranked as the "Best Defensive Catcher" and the No. 14 prospect in Washington's system entering the 2018 season, per Baseball America. He made six starts across five stints with Washington in 2017, recording five hits, including a double and three RBI. He has hit .246 (15-for-61) with four doubles, two homers, seven RBI, seven walks and seven runs scored in 35 Major League games since his debut in 2015.
Wieters, 31, started two of the first three games this season. He recorded his first hit and run scored of 2018 in Saturday's 13-7 win and drew walks in each of his two starts.
