The Washington Nationals recalled right-handed pitcher Koda Glover from Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday and placed left-handed pitcher Sammy Solis on the 15-day disabled list with left shoulder inflammation, retroactive to Aug. 16. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement.
Glover, 23, rejoins the Nationals for his second Major League assignment of the season. In the first call-up of his career, the right-hander appeared in two games (July 20 & 21 vs. LAD) and threw two scoreless innings. He allowed one hit and struck out one batter.
Glover advanced through three levels of Washington's Minor League system this season, going 3-1 with a 2.25 ERA and eight saves in 40 games with Single-A Potomac, Double-A Harrisburg and Triple-A Syracuse. Glover has recorded 66 strikeouts and 14 walks in the Minor Leagues, while limiting batters to just three home runs and a .197 batting average against across the three stops.
Since returning from his first MLB assignment, Glover has appeared in seven games with Syracuse, struck out 14 batters and not issued a single walk.
Glover was just the second member of the 2015 First-Year Player Draft to make the big leagues. Chicago White Sox first-round pick, right-hander Carson Fulmer made his Major League debut on July 17. Glover followed three days later with a scoreless frame against the Los Angeles Dodgers on July 20.
Solis, 28, is 2-3 with a 2.35 ERA in 35 games out of the Nationals' bullpen this season. The left-hander has struck out 10.3 batters per nine innings and held left-handed batters to a .200 batting average against.
