The Washington Nationals returned from rehab assignment and reinstated shortstop Trea Turner from the 60-day disabled list on Tuesday and optioned infielder Adrian Sanchez to Triple-A Syracuse. Additionally, outfielder Ryan Raburn (left trapezius strain) was transferred to the 60-day disabled list. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcements.
Turner, 24, returns to the Nationals' active roster after missing 51 games with a right wrist fracture. The fleet-footed shortstop appeared in seven games on rehab assignment (three with Triple-A Syracuse and four with Single-A Potomac), going 2-for-21 with a double, a walk, an RBI, one run scored.
The runner-up for the 2016 National League Rookie of the Year, Turner was leading the Major Leagues in stolen bases with 35 and ranked fourth among all National League shortstops in average (.279) and slugging percentage (.422), fifth in on-base percentage (.324) and home runs (7), and tied for second in triples (4) at the time he was hit by a pitch on the wrist vs. Chicago (June 29).
Sanchez, 27, hit .294 (15-for-51) with four doubles, seven RBI, and five runs scored in 24 games for the Nationals in his first Major League call-up. The 10-year Minor League veteran started 11 games, appearing at shortstop, second base, and third base for the Nationals.
Raburn, 36, has missed 34 games with the left trapezius strain, going on the disabled list on July 26 (retroactive to July 23). In 25 games at the Major League level this season, Raburn has hit .262 (17-for-65) with one double, two triples, two home runs, six RBI, four walks, and seven runs scored.
