Nationals select contract of Carter Kieboom

The Washington Nationals selected the contract of infielder Carter Kieboom on Friday. On Thursday, the Nationals optioned infielder Jake Noll to Triple-A Fresno. Additionally, the Nationals transferred right-handed pitcher Koda Glover to the 60-day Injured List. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcements.

Kieboom, 21, joins the Nationals after hitting .379 (25-for-66) with six doubles, one triple, three homers, 18 RBI, 16 walks and 14 runs scored in 18 games for Triple-A Fresno. He ranked among Pacific Coast League hitters in walks (1st, 16), on-base percentage (2nd, .506), hits (3rd, 25), OPS (8th, 1.142) and batting average (8th, .379) at the time of the promotion. Over his last three games, Kieboom went 6-for-11 (.545) with a double, homer, five RBI, four walks and four runs scored.

Kieboom entered the 2019 season rated by Baseball America as Washington’s No. 2 prospect and as of their update on April 23rd, Baseball America rated him as the No. 37 prospect in all of baseball. Baseball America also cited him as being the “Best Power Hitter” and having the “Best Strike-Zone Discipline” among Nationals Minor Leaguers. He is ranked as the No. 24 prospect in all of baseball, according to MLBPipeline.com.

Taking part in his first Major League Spring Training in 2019, Kieboom hit .279 (12-for-43) with three doubles, three homers, nine RBI, six walks and seven runs scored. He posted a .353 on-base percentage and a .558 slugging percentage.

Washington’s 2018 Minor League Player of the Year, Kieboom hit .280 with 31 doubles, one triple, 16 homers, 69 RBI, 58 walks, nine stolen bases and 84 runs scored in 123 games between Single-A Potomac and Double-A Harrisburg in 2018. He ranked in Washington’s system in runs scored (1st, 84), doubles (2nd, 31), RBI (2nd, 69), hits (3rd, 138), home runs (3rd, 16), walks (3rd, 58), slugging percentage (4th, .444) and OPS (4th, 801). For his efforts in the first half of the season, Kieboom was selected to represent the Nationals in the 2018 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game at Nationals Park.

A native of Marietta, Ga., Kieboom was selected in the first round (No. 28 overall) of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft. He has hit .286 with a .373 on-base percentage and a .471 slugging percentage across 238 Minor League games. He has clubbed 61 doubles, six triples, 32 home runs, 147 RBI, 118 walks, 14 stolen bases and 161 runs scored.

Noll, 25, has appeared in four games across two stints with the Nationals in 2019. He recorded his first Major League hit on April 24 at Colorado.

Glover, 23, has appeared in 63 games for the Nationals across three Major League seasons (2016-18). He is 3-4 with nine saves and a 4.55 ERA in those 63 games.
