The Oakland A's and PG&E will team up with Rebuilding Together Oakland to clean and restore the Oakland Police Activities League (P.A.L.) campground on Friday, Sept. 29. With the help of 125 volunteers from the A's front office and PG&E, various projects will be completed throughout the property to create a safer and healthier environment for Oakland youth.
The P.A.L. campground is primarily used by local youth. Projects for the day include expanding the kitchen and painting the cabin and dining area. The Diablo Fire Safe Council will help remove brush and debris throughout the property to reduce the risk of wildfires.
Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf and Oakland Councilmember Annie Campbell Washington will join volunteers for lunch from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m.
"The Police Activities League campground provides a fun environment for children in Oakland," said Catherine Aker, A's vice president of Communications and Community Relations. "We are excited to take part in this project to clean and restore the campground and to ensure that Oakland youth have a place where they can feel safe at home."
"We're proud to partner with the Oakland A's, the Diablo Fire Safe Council, and Rebuilding Together Oakland to create a safe place for local youth to learn, grow, and succeed," added Rob Black, PG&E chief community relations.
Part of the A's and PG&E "Safe at Home Program," which provides the opportunity to promote the value of safety, this project aims to bridge the gap between youth and the Oakland Police Department by creating a safe environment and community for local youth.
