The Oakland Athletics unveiled a logo today to commemorate their 50th anniversary in Oakland. The team will recognize the anniversary during a season-long celebration in 2018, which will include appearances by A's alumni, special promotions, events and giveaways. Additional details about the 50th anniversary celebration will be announced before the start of the 2018 season.
The logo emphasizes the team's connection to Oakland through the use of the Oakland tree and city skyline. The logo's shape is inspired by the iconic Oakland Fox Theater's marquee. The color used in the number 50, Oakland tree, roof tops of the federal buildings, and logo border is a special 50th anniversary gold.
The team will wear a modified version of the logo as a patch on the sleeve of home and visitor A's jerseys and on the side of their hats during the 2018 season.
The team also announced plans for the Oakland Athletics 50th anniversary team. Fans can vote for up to 50 Oakland Athletics from a list of the top all-time A's greats. Fans will also have the option to vote for up to three players as write-in candidates. Voting is open now at athletics.com/50 and will be active until the end of the 2017 regular season. Once the voting period ends, the ballots will be tabulated and the honorees will be announced at a later date. The Oakland Athletics 50th anniversary team will be honored at events during the 2018 season.
