BOSTON – Prior to tonight’s series opener at Boston, the Chicago White Sox designated right-handed pitcher Odrisamer Despaigne for assignment, returned outfielder Jon Jay from his injury rehab assignment at Class AAA Charlotte and reinstated him from the 60-day injured list.

Jay, 34, has been on the injured list since March 25 with a strained right hip. He was transferred to the 60-day injured list on May 5. Jay has appeared in 16 rehab games between Charlotte and Class AA Birmingham, hitting .333 (21-63) with two doubles, seven RBI and eight runs scored. He agreed to terms on a one-year contract on January 10.

Despaigne, 32, is 0-2 with a 9.45 ERA (14 ER/13.1 IP) in three starts with the White Sox since having his contract purchased from Charlotte on June 10. He signed with the White Sox as a free agent on May 19.

Following the moves, Chicago’s 40-man roster remains at 40.
