The Orioles announced Tuesday night that they have acquired RHP Dillon Tate, LHP Josh Rogers, and RHP Cody Carroll from the New York Yankees in exchange for LHP Zach Britton. Tate has been assigned to Double-A Bowie, while Rogers and Carroll have been assigned to Triple-A Norfolk.
Tate, 24, went 5-2 with a 3.38 ERA (31 ER/82.2 IP) and 75 strikeouts in 15 starts for Double-A Trenton this season. Over 58 career minor league games (50 starts), he has gone 16-7 with a 3.53 ERA (101 ER/257.1 IP) and 216 strikeouts against 85 walks. His 3.38 ERA this season ranks eighth-lowest in the Eastern League, while his 1.11 WHIP ranks fifth-best. He was named a 2018 Eastern League Mid-Season All-Star, and currently ranks as the ninth-best prospect in the Yankees organization according toMLB.com. Tate was acquired by the Yankees on August 1, 2016 in a four-player trade that sent DH Carlos Beltran to the Texas Rangers. He was originally selected by Texas in the first round (No. 4 overall) of the 2015 First-Year Player Draft.
Rogers, 24, spent the entire season with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, pitching to a record of 6-8 with a 3.95 ERA (48 ER/109.1 IP) and 83 strikeouts across 19 starts. He is currently tied for fourth in the International League in innings pitched. For his career, Rogers has gone 28-19 with a 3.16 ERA (123 ER/350.2 IP) and 294 strikeouts in 63 minor league games (58 starts). He was a 2017 Florida State League Mid-Season All-Star, and twice named a FSL Pitcher of the Week. Rogers was originally selected by the Yankees in the 11th round of the 2015 First-Year Player Draft.
Carroll, 25, went 3-0 with nine saves, a 2.38 ERA (11 ER/41.2 IP) and 55 strikeouts in 32 relief appearances for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He has not allowed a home run in 171 batters faced this season, and has limited opponents to a .184 batting average (27-for-147). Across 111 career minor league games (six starts), he has gone 11-10 with a 2.67 ERA (67 ER/226.0 IP) with 260 strikeouts. He is a three-time Mid-Season All-Star, and currently ranks as the 15th-best prospect in the Yankees organization according to MLB.com. Carroll was originally selected by the Yankees in the 22nd round of the 2015 First-Year Player Draft.
Britton, 30, went 1-0 with four saves, a 3.45 ERA (6 ER/15.2 IP), and 13 strikeouts in 16 games for the Orioles this season. He went 30-22 with 139 saves, a 3.22 ERA (185 ER/516.2 IP), and 425 strikeouts over 306 games (46 starts) in eight seasons for the Orioles. He set the AL record for consecutive save opportunities converted with 60-straight from October 1, 2015 - August 21, 2017. He was a two-time All-Star and was named the 2016 AL Reliever of the Year. Britton was originally selected by the Orioles in the third round (No. 85 overall) of the 2006 First-Year Player Draft.
