The Orioles have announced plans to host 'Celebrate Maryland Day' at Oriole Park at Camden Yards on Saturday, May 20 when the team takes on the Toronto Blue Jays at 7:35 p.m. ET. Following the 142nd running of the Preakness Stakes in Baltimore earlier in the day, the game will feature a variety of special guests and a unique giveaway item, as well as opportunities for fans to share their Maryland pride at the ballpark and on social media.
All fans in attendance will receive Orioles Maryland Flag script replica jerseys, presented by Morgan State University. During the game, Orioles players and coaches will also wear Orioles Maryland flag script jerseys and Maryland flag themed caps, which will be autographed, authenticated, and auctioned online at www.orioles.com/auctions to benefit the Orioles Charitable Foundation.
Prior to the game, United States Senators BEN CARDIN and CHRIS VAN HOLLEN will throw out the ceremonial first pitches. Born in Baltimore, Senator Cardin has served the people of Maryland for more than 50 years as a U.S. Senator, U.S. Representative, Maryland Delegate, and Speaker of the Maryland House of Delegates. Son of a Baltimore native, Senator Van Hollen was elected to the Senate in the fall of last year after previously serving Marylanders for more than 26 years as U.S. Representative, Maryland Delegate, and Maryland State Senator.
Additionally, the Orioles will recognize KIM COBLE, the Vice President of Environmental Protection and Restoration of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation as Saturday's Birdland Community Hero. Coble directs all policy, advocacy, and restoration efforts throughout the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Throughout her 25-year career with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, Coble has championed the preservation of Maryland's most-treasured natural resource.
Beginning today, fans from across the state are encouraged to share their Maryland pride by using #CelebrateMaryland on social media platforms for an opportunity to be featured on the scoreboard at Oriole Park during the game and for a chance to win unique Maryland-themed prize packs.
Official bases used during the May 20 game will feature Maryland flag jewels on the sides. The bases will be authenticated and auctioned online at www.orioles.com/auctions to benefit the Orioles Charitable Foundation.
Previously, the Orioles announced that the game time for the May 20 game, originally scheduled to begin at 4:05 p.m. had been changed to start at 7:35 p.m.
