SAN DIEGO – The San Diego Padres have acquired catcher Cam Gallagher from the Kansas City Royals in exchange for outfielder Brent Rooker, President of Baseball Operations and General Manager A.J. Preller announced today.
Gallagher, 29, has made 18 appearances for the Royals this season, batting .214 (9-for-42) with five doubles, five RBI and 1 run scored. The 6-foot-3, 230-pound right-handed hitter has also played in 10 games for Triple-A Omaha, batting .182 with one double, two home runs, five RBI and three runs scored.
Originally signed as a 2nd-round selection by the Royals in the 2011 First-Year Player Draft, the Lancaster Pa. native has played in a total of 171 Major League games for Kansas City from 2017-22, hitting .240 (101-for-420) with 27 doubles, seven home runs, 39 RBI and 41 runs scored. Across parts of 10 minor league seasons and 561 games in the Royals system, he’s hit .245 (469-for-1911) with 101 doubles, one triple, 33 home runs, 210 RBI and 172 runs scored.
With today’s moves, the Padres have 38 players on their 40-man roster.
