SAN DIEGO – The San Diego Padres have acquired right-handed pitcher Matt Wisler from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for right-hander Diomar Lopez, Executive Vice President/General Manager A.J. Preller announced today.

In 18 appearances (three starts) between the Atlanta Braves and Cincinnati Reds last season, Wisler went 1-1 with a 4.28 ERA (19 ER, 40.0 IP), 1.20 WHIP and 7.20 SO/9.0 IP (32 strikeouts). The 26-year-old also made 21 appearances (15 starts) between triple-A Gwinnett (Braves) and triple-A Louisville (Reds) in 2018, going a combined 5-5 with a 3.81 ERA (38 ER, 89.2 IP), 1.28 WHIP and 8.6 SO/9.0 IP (86 strikeouts). The Bryan, Ohio native was acquired by Cincinnati last July with righthander Lucas Sims and outfielder Preston Tucker from Atlanta in exchange for outfielder Adam Duvall.

Originally selected by the Padres in the seventh round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft, the 6-3, 215-pound right-hander helped lead double-A San Antonio to the Texas League Championship in 2013 and was rated as the Padres’ No.1 prospect by Baseball America in 2015. Wisler was acquired by Atlanta in the six-player trade that brought right-hander Craig Kimbrel and outfielder Melvin Upton Jr. to San Diego on April 5, 2015. Over parts of four Major League seasons, Wisler is 16-23 with a 5.14 ERA (193 ER, 338.0 IP), 1.39 WHIP, 6.42 SO/9.0 IP and .273 opponents average in 85 games (49 starts).
