The 6-4, 200-pound left-hander split the 2017 season between Single-A Lake Elsinore and Double-A San Antonio, pitching to a combined 4-2 record and a 2.88 ERA (18 ER, 56.1 IP) with 59 strikeouts against 26 walks in 47 relief appearances. Castillo was originally signed by Tampa Bay as an international free agent on July 7, 2012.

Wieck, originally signed by the New York Mets as a seventh-round selection in the 2014 First-Year Player Draft, was acquired by the Padres as a player to be named later along with RHP Cory Mazzoni from the Mets in exchange for LHP Alex Torres. Wieck was also named a 2016 Mid-Season All-Star for Single-A Lake Elsinore.
