Phillies select Aidan Miller in first round of 2023 MLB Draft

July 10th, 2023

The Phillies have selected Aidan Miller, a 19-year-old infielder from J.W. Mitchell High School (FL), in the first round (No. 27 overall) of the 2023 MLB Draft, Brian Barber, Director of Amateur Scouting, announced tonight.

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound Miller batted .385 (72-187) with 15 doubles, seven triples, eight home runs, 47 RBI, 36 stolen bases, 44 walks and a 1.176 OPS in 62 games in his three high school seasons. The Trinity, Fla., native missed his senior season with a hamate injury.

The right-handed hitter was named MVP of the 2022 Perfect Game All-American Classic and was ranked the sixth overall high school prospect and the second overall high school shortstop by Perfect Game.

“We feel incredibly fortunate and excited to be able to draft a talent like Aidan Miller,” Barber said. “We thought he was one of the best hitters we had seen on the showcase circuit and with Team USA last year. He had an unfortunate hamate injury this spring, but we watched his workouts after the season and felt strongly that Aidan is a special player who could make a significant impact in our organization.”

Miller is the 17th infielder selected by the Phillies in the first round since the first amateur draft was held in 1965.

The Phillies are scheduled to make their next two selections tomorrow in the third round (No. 98 overall) and fourth round (No. 130 overall), and then will have the 29th pick in each of the final 15 rounds (6-20).
