Pirates acquire pitcher Jeremy Beasley from Toronto
The Pittsburgh Pirates today acquired right-handed pitcher Jeremy Beasley from the Toronto Blue Jays for cash considerations. Beasley has been optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis.
The 26-year-old Beasley has spent a majority of the 2022 season with Triple-A Buffalo, where he went 2-1 with a 1.89 ERA (38.0ip/8er), 43 strikeouts, a 0.82 WHIP and .153 batting average against in 19 appearances (three starts).
The 6’2’’ righthander also made nine appearances this season with the Blue Jays, going 0-0 with a 4.80 ERA (15.0ip/8er) and 19 strikeouts.
Beasley made his big league debut in 2020 with Arizona, appearing in one game before spending the rest of the season on the injured list due to a right shoulder injury. He was then acquired by the Blue Jays on April 22, 2021, for cash considerations. Beasley made eight appearances with Toronto in 2021, where he struck out 13 batters in 9.1 innings of relief. He also posted a combined record of 4-1 with a 3.86 ERA (23.1ip/10er), 34 strikeouts and a .195 batting average against in 20 games (four starts) between Double-A New Hampshire and Buffalo.
Beasley was originally selected by the Angels in the 30th round of the 2017 First-Year Player Draft out of Clemson University before being acquired by Arizona on January 14, 2020, in exchange for pitcher Matt Andriese.
Since beginning his professional career in 2017, he has gone 22-17 with three saves, a 3.39 ERA (327.0ip/123er), 333 strikeouts and a .233 batting average against in 107 games (50 starts) at the minor league level.
