The Pittsburgh Pirates today claimed left-handed pitcher Sam Moll off waivers from the Oakland Athletics.
The 25-year-old Moll made a minor league career-high 50 appearances in 2017 and posted a 3.64 ERA (54.1ip/22er). He began the season with Albuquerque (Rockies' AAA), where he went 3-2 with a 4.18 ERA (47.1ip/22er) in 44 games before being traded to Oakland on August 16.
After making seven scoreless outings (7.0ip) with Triple-A Nashville, Moll made 11 appearances with Oakland during the final month of the season, making his Major League debut with the Athletics on September 1 at Seattle. Moll was originally selected by Colorado in the third round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Memphis.
There are now 39 players on Pittsburgh's 40-man roster.
