Pirates claim RHP Aron Slegers off waivers from Minnesota

The Pittsburgh Pirates today claimed right-handed pitcher Aaron Slegers (pronounced "SLEH-gers") off waivers from the Minnesota Twins. The announcement was made by Executive Vice President, General Manager Neal Huntington.

The Pittsburgh Pirates today claimed right-handed pitcher Aaron Slegers (pronounced "SLEH-gers") off waivers from the Minnesota Twins. The announcement was made by Executive Vice President, General Manager Neal Huntington.
The 26-year-old Slegers spent a majority of the 2018 season with Triple-A Rochester, where he went 5-7 with a 3.80 ERA (85.1ip/36er) in 15 starts. He also spent four separate stints in the big leagues with the Twins.
The 6-foot, 10-inch Slegers was Minnesota's Minor League Pitcher-of-the-Year in 2017 after going 15-4 with a 3.40 ERA in 24 starts with Rochester. He led all of Triple-A in wins that season and was tied for the most in all of minor league baseball. Slegers made his Major League debut with Minnesota in 2017, making four total appearances (three starts) during the season.
Originally selected by Minnesota in the fifth round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft, Slegers has gone 48-36 with a 3.54 ERA in 121 career appearances (112 starts) during his six minor league seasons. He has gone 1-2 in eight big league outings (five starts), winning his first Major League game this past season on July 5 vs. Baltimore.
To make room on the 40-man roster, RHP Dario Agrazal has beendesignated for assignment.
