Pirates roster moves

May 4th, 2019

The Pittsburgh Pirates today placed right-handed pitcher Jameson Taillon on the 10-day injured list with a right elbow flexor tendon strain.

The Pirates have also recalled infielder Kevin Newman from his rehab assignment with Indianapolis and reinstated him from the 10-day injured list (right middle finger laceration). Newman hit .233 (7-for-30) with two doubles and an RBI in eight games on rehab with Indianapolis. He made four starts at shortstop, two starts in left field and two starts in center field.

To make room for Newman on the 25-man active roster, infielder/outfielder Pablo Reyes has been optioned to Triple-A.

In addition, the Pirates intend to select the contract of left-handed pitcher Tyler Lyons from Triple-A Indianapolis. Lyons, who attended spring training as a non-roster invitee, went 1-0 with a 3.18 ERA (11.1ip/4er) and 12 strikeouts in 10 relief appearances this season with Indianapolis. Lyons will wear uniform #70.

The Pirates will make a corresponding 40-man roster move when the Lyons transaction becomes official.
