Pirates Select Anthony Solometo 37th Overall In Second Round Of 2021 Draft

The Pittsburgh Pirates today announced they have drafted left-handed pitcher Anthony Solometo with the 37th overall selection in the second round of the 2021 First-Year Player Draft.

The 18-year-old Solometo is rated as the 17th-best prospect in this year’s draft according to MLB Pipeline (28th by Baseball America). Solometo went 5-0 with a 0.21 ERA, 64 strikeouts and just five walks in 32.2 innings as a senior at Bishop Eustace (NJ) Preparatory School.

Perfect Game rated Solometo as the third-best left-handed pitcher and the 28th-best player in the class of 2021. Solometo was also tabbed by Perfect Game as a pre-season All-American as well as a first-team Northeast all-region selection.
