The Pittsburgh Pirates today announced that the team has signed infielder Konnor Griffin to a nine-year contract extension that runs through the 2034 season.

The 19-year-old Griffin (turns 20 on April 24) has a double, three RBI, two walks and two runs scored in five Major League games since having his contract selected from Triple-A Indianapolis on April 3.

“Signing Konnor is a meaningful commitment to this team, this city and our fans. It reflects our belief in Konnor, in this season’s club and in the future of our organization,” said Pirates Chairman Bob Nutting. “Konnor represents everything we value in a player – exceptional talent, strong character, a team-first mentality and a maturity that stood out to all of us from the beginning. He is the right person, from the right family. This is another important step in the work we have been doing to build a winning team, for this year and going forward.”

Griffin, who is currently rated by both Baseball America and MLB Pipeline as the No. 1 prospect in all of baseball, made his professional debut in 2025 and batted a combined .333 (161-for-484) with 23 doubles, four triples, 21 home runs, 94 RBI, 50 walks, 65 stolen bases, 117 runs scored and a .942 OPS across his 122 games split between Low-A Bradenton, High-A Greensboro and Double-A Altoona.

He ranked second among all players in Minor League Baseball in runs scored, fifth in hits and total bases (255), tied for seventh in RBI and tied for eighth in stolen bases (Griffin also ranked fourth among all full-season minor leaguers in batting average and seventh in OPS) during his first professional season.

“Since joining the organization, Konnor has consistently demonstrated the traits we want in a Pirate – a daily commitment to improvement, a team-first mindset and a strong desire to win,” said Pirates General Manager Ben Cherington. “He has met every challenge in front of him, and we are excited to watch him continue that growth alongside his teammates in Pittsburgh. We are thrilled he will be with a Pirate for a long time.”

Griffin was recognized as Baseball America’s Minor League Player of the Year, one year after being named the publication’s High School Player of the Year. He joined Joe Mauer, Byron Buxton, Bobby Witt Jr. and Jackson Holliday as the only players to be the recipients of both of the publication’s awards.

Griffin, who was selected by Pittsburgh out of Jackson Preparatory (MS) School in the first round (ninth overall) of the 2024 First-Year Player Draft, is the third member of the current roster to sign a long-term contract extension, joining Bryan Reynolds in 2023 (eight years) and Mitch Keller in 2024 (five years).
