Pirates sign two more 2019 Draft picks

The Pittsburgh Pirates today announced they have signed left-handed hitting outfielder Sammy Siani, the second player taken by the Pirates in the 2019 First-Year Player Draft. The announcement was made by Joe DelliCarri, the Pirates Senior Director of Scouting.

Considered as the No. 1 prospect in the state of Pennsylvania by Baseball America, Siani was also ranked 43rd overall in MLB.com's pre-draft analysis and 44th by Baseball America. He hit .457 with eight doubles, nine triples, six home runs, 25 RBI and 16 stolen bases in 32 games for William Penn Charter School this past season (William Penn Charter School in located in Philadelphia).

Siani, 18, was selected with the 37th overall pick in the Competitive Balance Round A, which immediately follows the first round. His older brother, Mike, was selected by the Reds in the fourth round of the 2018 draft.

Siani will begin his professional career with the Gulf Coast League Pirates.

The Pirates have also signed infielder Ernny Ordonez, the club’s 33rd round selection. Ordonez batted .332 (90-for-271) with 22 doubles, three triples, nine home runs and 68 RBI in 65 games with Central Arizona College in 2019. For his efforts, he was named a first-team All-Arizona Community College Athletic Conference selection.

Ordonez hit .398 (82-for-206) with 19 doubles, eight triples, four home runs and 47 RBI in 54 games in 2018 and was named to the 2017 Perfect Game pre-season All-American team.

The 20-year-old Ordonez will begin his professional career with the Bristol Pirates in the Appalachian League.

The Pirates have now signed 25 players from the 2019 draft.
