OAKLAND, Calif. – The Oakland A’s acquired left-handed pitcher Cole Irvin from the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for cash considerations, the club announced today.
Irvin had two stints with the Phillies in 2020 and had a loss and a 17.18 ERA in three relief appearances. He made his Major League debut with Philadelphia in 2019 and is 2-2 with a 6.75 ERA and .306 opponents batting average in 19 games, including three starts, in the majors. The left-handed pitcher, who turns 27 tomorrow, was the Phillies fifth round pick in the 2016 First-Year Player Draft. Irvin was used primarily as a starter in the minors and is 34-15 with a 3.07 ERA and .246 opponents batting average in 78 games, including 72 starts, in four seasons. He has walked just 95 batters in 452.0 innings, an average of 1.89 per nine innings.
