OAKLAND, Calif. – The Oakland A’s have agreed to terms with infielder Jed Lowrie on a minor league contract with an invite to Spring Training, the club announced today.
Lowrie has played for the A’s twice in his career and is a .271 hitter with 60 home runs and 320 RBI in 687 games in five seasons with Oakland. His first stint with the A’s came in 2013-14 when he was the starting shortstop on back-to-back playoff teams. After signing with Houston as a free agent prior to the 2015 season, he was traded back to Oakland in November of 2015 and spent three years as Oakland’s primary second baseman from 2016-18. The 36-year-old switch-hitter signed with the New York Mets as a free agent prior to the 2019 season but has played just nine games since then due to knee injuries. Lowrie is a .261 career hitter with 104 home runs and 509 RBI in 1,118 games in 12 seasons with Boston (2008-11), Houston (2012, 15), Oakland (2013-14, 16-18) and New York-NL (2019).
The A’s now have 22 non-roster invitees in addition to 39 players on the 40-man roster. Pitchers and catchers have their first workout on Feb. 17 and the full squad gathers for the first time on Feb. 22.
