Oakland A's and The PG&E Corporation Foundation award grant to #OaklandUndivided

September 24th, 2020

OAKLAND, Calif. – The Oakland A's Community Fund and The PG&E Corporation Foundation today announced a $35,000 grant to #OaklandUndivided. The grant will help close the technology gap in the Oakland Unified School District and support Parker Elementary’s technological needs for their students.

“Now more than ever, access to a computer and the internet is critical to a student’s educational success. Thanks to the support of our incredible partner, PG&E, we are proud to provide a grant to #OaklandUndivided to help close the digital divide and ensure that every public school student in Oakland has the technological support they need this school year,” said Oakland A’s Vice President of Communication and Community, Catherine Aker.

“PG&E is committed to access and equity in education, and creating opportunity for young people in California. This contribution supports the immediate need for computing and connectivity to help remove barriers to learning and success for students in Oakland. We have long been committed to the youth of Oakland, and as we transition to our new headquarters located there, we will continue this tradition of giving back to Oakland and the greater East Bay,” said The PG&E Corporation Foundation Executive Director, Stephanie Isaacson.

A partnership between Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf’s Office of Education, the Oakland Public Education Fund, the Oakland Unified School District, and Tech Exchange, #OaklandUndivided is focused on closing the Digital Divide in Oakland. Of the 50,000 students enrolled in Oakland schools, approximately half are disconnected or under-connected from technology at home. Without a computer and internet access, they are denied access to the learning opportunities they deserve. #OaklandUndivided’s mission is to ensure every Oakland public school student has three things: a computer, internet connection, & technology support in their home for the school year.
