OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland Athletics claimed right-handed pitcher Tyler Cyr off waivers from the Philadelphia Phillies, the club announced today.

Cyr made his Major League debut with the Phillies on Sunday and allowed a run on two hits in 0.1 innings against the Mets before he was designated for assignment the next day.  He spent the balance of the season at Triple-A Lehigh Valley where he was 2-3 with six saves, a 2.50 ERA, .202 opponents batting average and .550 OPS in 35 relief appearances.  The 29-year-old right-hander joins Cal Stevenson as one of two graduates of Fremont’s John F. Kennedy High School with the A's.  Cyr was originally selected by San Francisco in the 10th round of the 2015 draft and signed with the Phillies following the 2021 season.  He is 17-12 with 35 saves and a 2.93 ERA in 214 career appearances over seven seasons in the minors.
