A’s send INF Dustin Harris and OF Marcus Smith to Texas to complete minor deal

A’s also reinstate RHP Frankie Montas from paternity list; option OF Seth Brown

OAKLAND, Calif. – ­­­­The Oakland A’s sent minor league infielder Dustin Harris and minor league outfielder Marcus Smith to the Texas Rangers as the players to be named later in the Aug. 31 trade in which the A’s acquired Mike Minor, the club announced today. The A’s also reinstated right-handed pitcher Frankie Montas from the paternity list and optioned outfielder Seth Brown to Oakland’s alternate site.

Harris was selected by Oakland in the 11th round of the 2019 First-Year Player Draft out of St. Petersburg College. He batted a combined .325 with a home run and 26 RBI in 58 games last year with the A’s Arizona Rookie League affiliate at Short Season Single-A Vermont.

Smith was the A’s third round pick in 2019 out of Pembroke Hill High School in Kansas. He played in 29 games for the A’s Arizona Rookie League club last year and batted .361 with 14 RBI. The 20-year-old left-handed hitter was rated as the A’s 20th best prospect by MLB.com

Montas was placed on the paternity list on Monday and is 3-4 with a 5.86 ERA in nine starts. Brown was recalled on Sept. 12 for his third stint with the A’s this year and was 0-for-1 in three games. He is 0-for-5 in seven games over three stints overall with Oakland.
