A’s Place 2B Gelof on Injured List; Recall INF Hernaiz from Las Vegas

OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland A’s placed second baseman Zack Gelof on the 10-day injured list retroactive to April 24 with a strained left oblique and recalled infielder Darell Hernaiz from Triple-A Las Vegas, the club announced today.

Gelof started each of the A’s first 24 games at second base before he was scratched from the starting lineup yesterday. He is hitting .196 with three home runs and seven RBI but has struck out 33 times in 92 at bats.

Hernaiz was on the A’s Opening Day roster and batted .103 with two RBI in 17 games in his Major League debut before he was optioned to Las Vegas on April 17. He went 4-for-19 (.211) with a home run, three RBI and three walks in six games with the Aviators. Hernaiz started five games at third base and five at shortstop with Oakland, and five at shortstop and one at third base with Las Vegas.
