OAKLAND, Calif. – The Oakland A’s selected right-handed pitcher Domingo Acevedo from Triple-A Las Vegas and designated right-handed pitcher Burch Smith for assignment, the club announced today.

Acevedo joins the A’s for the second time this season as he made his Major League debut earlier this year. He was selected on June 21 and pitched in three games, all against Texas (3.0 ip, 5 h, 3 r, 3 er, 3 so, 2 hr). The 27-year-old right-hander was optioned to Las Vegas July 3 and was designated for assignment July 30 when the A’s acquired Yan Gomes and Josh Harrison from Washington. Acevedo did not allow a run in 11 of his last 12 appearances with the Aviators (0.73 ERA) and was 2-0 with nine saves, a 2.48 ERA and .186 opponents batting average in 30 relief appearances overall at Triple-A.

Smith was 1-1 with a 5.40 ERA and .280 opponents batting average in 31 relief appearances with Oakland. He posted a 2.93 ERA over his first 11 games but has a 6.75 ERA in 20 games since then. Smith was on the A’s Opening Day roster but was on the injured list from April 4 to May 8 with a strained right groin. He was acquired from San Francisco on Feb. 15, 2020 and went 3-1 with a 4.72 ERA in 37 relief appearances in two seasons with Oakland.
