OAKLAND, Calif. – The Oakland Athletics agreed to terms with 12 international prospects from three countries, the club announced today.
“We’re thrilled to add these players to our organization,” said Dan Feinstein, the A’s Assistant General Manager, Major League and International Operations. “It’s a talented group that will bolster our player development system and add to the pipeline of future A’s. Our international staff works tirelessly throughout the year and this class is a testament to their continued efforts.”
Outfielder Pedro Pineda was ranked 13th on MLB.com’s Top 30 International Prospects list in 2020. Pineda was one of two Domincan-born players to sign, along with shortstop Germán Ortiz.
The A’s also signed nine players from Venezuela: right-handed pitchers Moisés Hernández, Jesús Perdigón, and Jimmy Rojas; catcher Javier Pariguán; shortstops Dayker Baldallo, Ray Garrett, and Anderson Machado; and outfielders Ángel Arévalo and Beyker Martínez. Rounding out the slate of signings was left-handed pitcher Sullivan Ribeiro de Almeida from Brazil. Rebeiro de Almeida is just the second A’s signing out of Brazil since 2000.
This year’s crop of A’s international prospects includes three right-handed pitchers, one left-handed pitcher, one catcher, four shortstops, and three outfielders.
