HOUSTON, TX - Jose Altuve has been voted by the fans as the American League starting second baseman for the 2022 Major League Baseball All-Star Game, MLB announced today.
Altuve was the top vote-getter among fans at his position. MLB is announcing all starting position players on the Chevrolet MLB All-Star Starters Reveal show, currently being aired on ESPN.
For Altuve, this marks his eighth All-Star selection, which is a franchise record and is the third-most in MLB history for a second baseman. The three players ahead of him on this list are all in the Hall of Fame.

Eight All-Star selections for Altuve is also a franchise-record, surpassing Craig Biggio, who was a seven-time All-Star. Additionally, this is the fifth time that Altuve has been voted as a starter, with the previous four times coming from 2015-18. Five All-Star starts is also a franchise record.
Entering today, Altuve was leading all AL second basemen in home runs (17), on-base pct. (.368), slugging pct. (.539) and OPS (.907). Additionally, he has hit seven leadoff homers in 2022.
The full rosters for the All-Star Game will be announced on ESPN on Sunday, July 10 at 4:30 p.m. CT during the Chevrolet MLB All-Star Selection Show. The 92nd All-Star Game is scheduled for Tuesday, July 19 at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. The game will be televised on FOX, whose coverage will begin at 6:30 p.m. CT.
ASTROS ALL-STAR GAME NOTES
RECENT ASG: Most recently, the Astros had four All-Star selections last season when Altuve, Michael Brantley, Carlos Correa and Ryan Pressly were named to the team (all non-starters).
STARTER: This year is the first that the Astros will have a starter in the All-Star Game since 2019, when Michael Brantley, Alex Bregman and George Springer were voted as starters by the fans and *Justin Verlander *
was named the starting pitcher. There was no All-Star Game in 2020 due to the pandemic.
STARTING PITCHERS: Five Astros pitchers have started the All-Star Game. They are: Verlander (2019); *_LHP Dallas Keuchel (2015); RHP Roger Clemens (2004); RHP Mike Scott (1987); RHP J.R. Richard (1980). *_Richard’s
start came in the last All-Star Game played at Dodger Stadium in 1980.
HOME RUN DERBY: Alex Bregman is the last Astros player to take part in the Home Run Derby, participating in both 2018 and 2019.
ALL-STAR MVP: The Astros have had one All-Star Game MVP. Bregman earned MVP honors in the 2018 Midsummer Classic after his 10th-inning home run helped lead the AL to an 8-6 win at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C.
MANAGER/COACHING STAFF: As defending AL Champions, Dusty Baker and his coaching staff will manage the AL squad. This will mark the third time that an Astros manager and his staff will manage an All-Star Game. The other times were in 2006 (NL) and 2018 (AL). The Astros staff was in line to manage the 2020 All-Star Game before it was cancelled due to the pandemic.
