Angels sign RHP Zach Plesac

ANAHEIM – The Angels today agreed to a one-year, $1 million contract with RHP Zach Plesac. In a corresponding 40-man roster move, LHP Adam Kolarek has been outrighted to Triple-A Salt Lake.

Plesac, 28, made his Major League debut on May 28, 2019 against the Boston Red Sox and ranked second among A.L. rookies (min. 100 IP) that season with a 3.81 ERA (115.2 IP – 49 ER). During the 2020 campaign, his 2.28 ERA (55.1 IP – 14 ER) ranked third in the American League (min. 50 IP). Overall, in five seasons with the Guardians, he compiled a 26-27 record and 4.20 ERA (466.2 IP – 218 ER) with 359 strikeouts across 84 games (83 starts).

A native of Crown Point, IN, Plesac was selected by Cleveland in the 12th round of the 2016 Draft out of Ball State University. He appeared in five games (all starts) for the Guardians in 2023, compiling a 1-1 record and 7.59 ERA (21.1 IP – 18 ER). He also pitched in 19 games (18 starts) for Triple-A Columbus, including a three-hit complete game victory in the first leg of a doubleheader on May 6 against the Iowa Cubs.
