Discipline has been determined for members of the Houston Astros and the Oakland Athletics as a result of the benches-clearing incident during the bottom of the seventh inning of their Sunday afternoon game at the Oakland Coliseum. Chris Young, Major League Baseball’s Senior Vice President of Baseball Operations, made the announcement:
Astros hitting coach Alex Cintron has received a 20-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for his role in inciting and escalating the conflict between the two Clubs. Cintron’s suspension is effective immediately.
A’s outfielder Ramón Laureano has received a six-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for charging the Astros’ dugout and causing the benches to clear.
Laureano’s suspension had been scheduled to begin tonight, when the A’s will continue their series vs. the Los Angeles Angels at Angel Stadium in Anaheim. However, Laureano has elected to appeal. Thus, the discipline will be held in abeyance until the process is complete.
