Astros community leader ConocoPhillips launches college readiness room at Astros Youth Academy

ConocoPhillips partners with the Astros on the College Readiness Program

August 7th, 2024

The Astros Foundation is proud to announce that it has partnered with ConocoPhillips to launch the new ConocoPhillips College Readiness Room at the Astros Youth Academy.

The room, which was unveiled July 29, will be used for college readiness purposes by the student-athletes at the Astros Youth Academy. The space gives the Youth Academy an on-site location to hold college information sessions and other programming to help students prepare for higher education. The first event held in the room was a weeklong algebra camp for 30 middle-school students to help them prepare for upcoming classes and the PSAT and SAT tests.

The College Readiness Room is part of the ConocoPhillips College Readiness Program with the Astros Foundation, a partnership that reflects both organizations’ shared focus on ensuring students have the tools they need to apply and succeed in college. The program seeks to increase the number of first-generation college students with classes that help students and families better understand the application and admission process.

Earlier this year, ConocoPhillips was the presenting sponsor for the Astros Foundation/Astros Youth Academy College Fair at Minute Maid Park. The event featured more than 100 colleges and reached more than 1,000 students in the greater Houston area.

Other programming planned for this year includes a FAFSA workshop for high school seniors and an essay writing seminar to help students on the Texas Common Application.
