Blue Jays sign Yusei Kikuchi

The Toronto Blue Jays have agreed to terms with LHP Yusei Kikuchi on a three-year contract (US $36,000,000).

Kikuchi, 30, earned his first selection to the All-Star Game in 2021 with an impressive first half, posting a 3.48 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP. The 6-0, 200 lb. lefty finished the campaign with a 7-9 record and an ERA of 4.41 while fanning 163 batters over 157.0 innings pitched. Kikuchi signed with Seattle in January of 2019 and has compiled a 15-24 record to go with a 4.97 ERA during his three Major League seasons. Prior to joining the Mariners, the native of Morioka, Japan, played seven seasons with the Saitama Seibu Lions in Japan’s Pacific League, posting a career mark of 69-45 with a 2.69 ERA, and was named to the NPB All-Star team on three occasions.
