Braves acquire OF Robbie Grossman

Atlanta lands veteran outfielder

ATLANTA – The Atlanta Braves acquired OF Robbie Grossman from the Detroit Tigers in exchange for LHP Kris Anglin. Grossman will wear No. 15.

Grossman, 32, appeared in 83 games with Detroit this season, hitting .205 (56-for-273) with two home runs and 23 RBI. The switch-hitter, however, hit .364 (28-for-77) with a .479 on-base percentage and a .519 slugging percentage against left-handed pitching. For his career, Grossman owns a .796 OPS against left-handers with a .281 average and 21 home runs.

Grossman has played both corner outfield spots this season, starting 43 games in left field and 31 in right field.

The 6-foot-0, 215-pound Grossman joined the Tigers last season, playing in a career-best 156 games and hitting a personal-high 23 home runs. He also finished second in the American League with 98 walks.

Originally drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the sixth round of the 2008 First-Year Draft out of Cy-Fair High School in Cypress, Texas, Grossman made his major league debut in 2013 with Houston. He also played with Minnesota and Oakland during his 10-year career, and has appeared in 965 games while compiling a .246 (785-for-3,192) average with 75 home runs.  

Anglin, 20, was the club’s 16th-round pick last season. He appeared in 17 games between Single-A Augusta and the Florida Complex League this season.

The Braves optioned INF Mike Ford to Triple-A Gwinnett.
